First day of K-5

Wow, over 1,800 days have gone by since Jonathan's birth, in what honestly feels like the blink of an eye...

Jonathan is now a happy K-5'er.

Here he is with his new green backpack on (thank you Grandpa Bob and Grandma Cheryl) getting ready for me to drive him to school. It was nice for a few minutes alone on the ride with him, we left David and Daniel with Daddy. He is an amazing guy!

Here he is in the school parking lot, that Alabama sun is bright even at 8 am!

This is the door to his class, his name is on the highest school bus on the right hand side.
Sorry buddy caught you blinking!

Mrs. Cox, Jillian and Jonathan hanging up backpacks, sorting out what goes where...she is a better woman than me! Such patience to work with all these children! She said though that this class seems to be a good one, the children are very well behaved, from what she has seen, but it is only the first day...

As you can see Jonathan was very distraught over my imminent departure, NOT. He didn't even care! For which I am eternally grateful, he was so happy to be in SCHOOL.
Mrs. Cox told him to pick a book and sit down, which he promptly did.
When he got home today (Joe went and picked him up so I could make cupcakes for David's 3rd birthday this evening...busy day around here) the first question out of his mouth was, "Did I miss the party?" I asked, "David's party?" To which he said, "Why did I miss the party?" I had to explain that the party would be tonight after dinner.
He stayed on Green Light, which is good and said that he had fun, but tomorrow he needs to sleep at school. Thankfully Grandma Cheri Bee found him a nap mat - something I was unable to do, so yes, tomorrow he will be napping at school with his friends.
I am so happy that he will have fond memories of his first day at school; mine involved missing the school bus - on purpose by hiding behind our garbage cans, a lie, a nosey tattle-tailing neighbor and STILL ending up at school!
Well I'd best close this post down...still have to finish getting ready for the party tonight! Oh, PS, I didn't cry either! He was so excited I saw no reason to be sad, plus I am rather excited at the prospect of spending more time with David.

Answer's to Prayers

Last night I prayed about understanding why God didn't answer some prayers. It is really confusing to me and I was getting aggravated and frustrated, so I prayed for God to help me to get it.
This morning while doing my devotions, I read "My Utmost for His Highest" by Oswald Chambers and guess what it was about...Yep Prayer...Matthew 6:8, "for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him." This verse has always confused me too, why if God knows what we need do we have to ask? As a mom, I know what my kids need and I try to meet their needs before they have to ask, so to be honest it feels like he is ignoring me.
Anyway, Chambers wrote, "The point of prayer is not to get answers from God, but to have perfect and complete oneness with him." WOW. I know that God is not a genie for me to say, "I want..." and he has to answer me EVERY TIME; at the same time it feels like needs, not wants, are going left unmet in our life and again that is just confusing and discouraging as a Christian.
He went on to write that, "our spiritual irritation shows our refusal to identify ourselves truly with our Lord in prayer." I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack so I am praying the Holy Spirit will help me to really get this and help it to change me.
I think it is neat though that I struggle with God not answering prayers, I prayed that he would help me and he answered my prayer! :)

Frustrated...

Okay, I just read an article about a home Bible study in San Diego that was busted up by the Police and the leader is being prosecuted...Um, what happened to our right to religious freedom?
Link to article:
http://www.10news.com/news/19562217/detail.html
Anyway, I read some of the comments and it got me all fired up at other Christians because I think we've forgotten something very important in our world today - the attacks of the Devil are not personal, we are in the image of Christ and that is why the devil hates us so much.
Christian friends remember that we are to speak in LOVE and TRUTH, not just throw out Bible verses as stones. I hate the "they'll get what they deserve" mentality. I mean honestly, everyone deserves Hell because we are all sinners, some of us just make the choice to accept Jesus as our Savior, that is the only difference. God loves the sinner and hates the sin, why can't we?
1) “A soft answer turneth away wrath” Proverbs 15:1
2) “Be ye angry, and sin not” Ephesians 4:26
3) “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin” James 4:17
4) “Then said Jesus, Father forgive them; for they know not what they do…” Luke 23:34
Jesus will leave the ninty and nine to seek the one lost lamb. So those who are lost and dying in their sins should not anger us, they should make us weep for their condition. Perhaps a softening of our hearts would allow for a softening of theirs.
Another thing beloved, how many of us have unconfessed sins in our lives while we are looking at the world condemning the sodomite, adulteress and alcoholic? I mean come on, do you spend more time on your knees praying or more time playing on an unfiltered Internet, looking at things you shouldn't be??? (Plug here for our filter - integrity online, its great and inexpensive and you can get up to three computers on it for the same price.)
I do not believe in a watered down Gospel! Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven...
I get so frustrated with the world too, daily! I too want to jump up and scream and honestly knock most people upside the head! I mean the propaganda that seemingly intelligent people buy into. For some reason because CNN or ABC airs a story it must be TRUTH. How about venturing off the mainstream media for a while and getting another side to the story. I know that every side is biased, that is why we need to see things from more than one angle so we can get a better idea of the truth. Obama is not the savior of our nation, he is a wolf in sheep's clothing, sin is still sin and will always be sin and there is an absolute (other than the beverage) in this world and it is called the B-I-B-L-E, everything may seem right in our own eyes, but there is right and there is wrong so deal with it!
The Bible is the only thing that doesn't need a spin doctor! There is no room for deviating or "my side to the story" when it comes to the Bible, it is our "control factor" if you will. (Remember from science class a control factor was a constant, which all test results were compared to...meaning it was RIGHT and UNCHANGEABLE.)
Anywho, (yes I spelled it that way on purpose, I know how to use my spell checker thank you). That is my two sense. It all has to play out so Jesus can return...
Before He does though if you don't know for sure that if you died today you would go to Heaven please take a minute and read these verses so you can have 100% assurance of your salvation.
1) “As it is written, There is none righteous, no not one:” Romans 3:10
2) “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
3) “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin: and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” Romans 5:12
4) “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
5) “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
6) “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
If you have read these statements and agree, please look for a good church in your area and make your decision public and find someone (of the same sex if married, i.e. a man should only study the Bible with a man and women with women if in a one on one setting) to help you grow in your knowledge of the Lord. You can find good churches via http://www.swordofthelord.com/

LA or bust

Okay, so it isn't the West Coast it is the Gulf Coast, but hey Lower Alabama does have some redeeming qualities, like family. I'll let you know if I find anymore!
So here we are still living out of boxes, I think I am worse about unpacking than I am about packing, I just can't make myself finish getting stuff out of these boxes! But we are enjoying being back. We all love our yard. It is so nice, the boys have over an acre, fenced, to play in. AH, they are outside a lot which helps me! Even Daniel. I stick him in his playpen on the front porch and he is happy for quite a while.
Joe's new job at our church is going well. He is working himself "out of a job" as they like to say, he is about two weeks ahead of schedule on the remodeling project, which makes our Pastor very happy.
Not much else is going on, just really busy and content to be where God wants us.
Miss everyone in TN, but there is much to be said for having family close by.

Home Sweet Home

Now I ask you does this look like a "sick" child to you? He even pulled himself up for the first time in his "baby jail."

Well the trails of baby illnesses are hopefully over...After four days in the hospital we arrived home last night around 5pm. Daniel is doing much better today, but here is a little synopsis of what all transpired over the last week.
Last Thursday I took the boys in to a doctor's appointment. They diagnosed Daniel with an ear infection and an unknown tonsil infection (they didn't do a throat culture because he was going to be on antibiotics anyway, so why waste the time). Daniel had not nursed at all that day so when the Doctor said ears and throat I thought, okay that makes sense.
By Friday I was concerned, but the lactation consultant said just to hang in there, it would be Saturday that he would turn around because he'd be on the antibiotics long enough to dull the pain, but to use Ibuprofen to help with the pain.
Saturday rolls around and still very little to nothing was getting into my sweet boy. So I loaded him into the car and went to the ER. Yep, eardrum is still bulging and red. So they literally double the amount of fluids in him, then give him a bunch of painkillers and we head home, thinking he'll be great in a couple hours. Um, no. You know at first I should have thought, hm, maybe he is like his dad and just needs time to fast and pray or something, but this was getting ridiculous in a very nonfunny way.
So Sunday off we go to the ER again. Thank the Lord for Children's Hospital! Joe took us and dropped us off this time and sure enough they admitted Daniel. They immediately put in an IV for him and he didn't come off it till Tuesday. He started eating on Monday and thinking it would encourage him to drink they took him off the fluids Tuesday am. It had the reverse effect, he stopped eating again.
By this time Daniel and I are so ready to leave that he starts laughing every time I just walk him near the door. We were strolling the halls and hanging out on the patio just to keep from going nuts!
At this point I was also confused because the attending physician said she wanted to put in a feeding tube and I was like, "NO WAY." She said she would wait till after the ENT came to see him Wednesday morning, but then she was doing it if he hadn't turned around. So needless to say I got an attitude once my shock wore off. I asked to speak with a doctor, thankfully it was the resident who had been accompanying the attending the whole time, he was very nice. So Dr. Wilson and I talked and I explained my perspective, nicely and asked questions and he was wonderful and said that he agreed that it was too soon to go to a feeding tube. So we decided to scale back the food/beverage on slot and just offer things Daniel had eaten before, rice cereal and chicken with applesauce. Sure enough he ate them, plus some yogurt. So Wednesday they released him. He still wasn't drinking, but his ears and throat were clear and he was acting fine.
Last night Daniel at two jars of baby food, took a bath then pretty much fell into bed. He was so happy to be in his own room he didn't even cry. Then he woke up around 930pm and the real fun began...
He wouldn't nurse and wouldn't take the bottle so I was crying and upset when Joe calmly walks in, tries to help then just says, "Let's try chocolate." I look at him through my tears and confusion and say, "Joe you cannot put chocolate in a baby bottle." He laughs and says, well don't make it brown like the boys, but a little won't hurt him." I look at Daniel, who is still screaming and figure, well if we are headed back to the ER it won't really matter, so I say, "Go get the chocolate." Sure enough, three little drops strategically placed and bingo - an empty bottle, a burped, sleeping baby!!!!
Aah, there is something to be said for uninterrupted sleep!!! And seven hours of it was PURE HEAVEN!!!

The Next Step

Well we've finally got all our ducks in a row...we will be headed South for much longer than just the winter. Although it is not our first choice as we love it here, I do have a peace about it and know that God is still in control and has allowed this for some reason.
The boys are so excited, we are counting down the days.
Funny side note...this morning the boys and I were playing in Daniel's room and Jonathan looked at me and says, "I had a dream last night that you had a big, fat belly and I was going to have a baby sister." I said, "Oh, okay." He says, "God put her there." I just love that boy!!!! We are not trying, so if we are going to have another child, then yes, God will have put her there, and it better be a her!!!!

Please enjoy the music while you read

Yeah I finally figured out how to add music (aren't you proud of me Renee???). It is a little schizophrenic in genre, but they are all songs I love. Yes, I am very bored and tired at the moment, Joe is making me stay up so I can look at a cabinet/entertainment center he is building so I am playing on here to keep myself from falling asleep.

They are in no particular order, I just put them on randomly...

The first one by bread is in honor of my sister Christine...she introduced me to the group when I was about 9 and anytime I hear them I think of her. I found a card from her the other day. It was really hard to read, she's been gone for almost 3 years. I really miss her.
The last song is in honor of my sister Leah, she introduced me to Kiss, but since the song is named "Beth" I had to put it on here, plus it is not what you'd think of regarding the group Kiss, it is VERY tame.
Enjoy, hopefully I will add some more. I don't listen to much outside of our kids Cd's anymore, so I am not up on anything current, I just love the golden oldies.

Foreclosure

Well the foreclosure auction wasn't as dramatic as I thought it was going to be...it was actually pretty boring and only lasted about five minutes. Just long enough to read the legal documents, say, "Going once, twice, sold to Indymac Bank."
Hopefully this will help others out there going through the same thing...

I started contacting our mortgage companies (we have two) BEFORE we got behind. So while we were still current on our payments I requested they work with us. They said no. There was no help until we were behind. Okay. So we tried to keep it current, but when the inevitable happened, I called again and tada, I was told, once we could bring our account current, THEN we would be eligible for a modification to our loan and whatever the first mortgage did, the second would follow.
Okay, maybe I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, but that seems like the run-around to me...
Anyway, I provided all of our information, but nothing worked with our lender. Here are some things I learned though, in no particular order...

Modification - multiple options are under this heading, but all of which you have to "qualify" for. Meaning your debt to income ratio has to be such that you CAN make a significant portion of your payment, so they can possibly lower your payment for a few months or tack them on to the end of the loan; your lender may have different options, but this is usually the first step.

Short-sale - selling your house for less than what is owed to a third party, but for what is a "current fair market value." A real estate broker should be able to help you get it going with your lender if you know you are going to fall behind, but think you can sell your home. I have been told conflicting information like we had to have a buyer ready before we could use this option, and if we listed our house it would stall the foreclosure, but I never could get a clear answer...so ask questions before you get too close to a foreclosure so you have time to have it on the market if that is what is necessary.

Deed-in-lieu - your lender "buys back" your mortgage without going through the foreclosure process. You can only do this if you have one mortgage.

Refinance - be sure you do not have a prepayment penalty or some other condition that will tack on huge amounts to your principle balance or closing costs. Sometimes they will waive the ppp if you are close enough to the expiration date or they will adjust it based on how much time you have remaining.

If you too join the ranks of the "foreclosed" then you still have some options...
If you really want to save your home, start calling your mortgage company and see if they will now "refinance" your loan at a lower principle amount.
If that doesn't work then contact your Congressman (woman) and start raising a fuss about what has happened, but be honest, have facts, names, dates, information.

There is something called "cash for keys" where after you are foreclosed on, you are contacted and if you are willing to leave voluntarily instead of waiting to be evicted, they offer you cash money. We'll see on Monday how much they offer us.

The most important and beneficial thing you can do is be organized. Get a notebook and EVERY SINGLE CALL YOU MAKE OR RECEIVE from the mortgage company gets written in this book, with all the pertinent information, name, date, id #, basic outcome of conversation, specific statements made, etc. This will protect you and save you a lot of time because they cannot give you the run around if you have FACTS.

Hope yours turns out better than ours.

Trusting and Obeying

Hmm, sounds simple enough huh? Not for me...My favorite hymn has always been "Trust and Obey." Now that I can look back on a few years and see what the Lord has asked me to walk through, I understand why. It is a constant reminder of how hard those two things are to do as a Christian. I really think my two favorite verses are three and five:
"Not a burden we bear, Not a sorrow we share, But our toil He doth richly repay; Not a grief nor a loss, Not a frown nor a cross, But is blest if we trust and obey."
"Then in fellowship sweet We will sit at His feet, Or we'll walk by His side in the way; What He says we will do, Where He sends we will go - Never fear, only trust and obey."
Oh, how true those stanzas have been these past nine months. It all started with our company not having work for two months back in July and August 2008; then a job coming along that only provided 1/4 of what our previous income was. Joe has worked so hard, and we've been asked to make some decisions that were the proverbial "rock and a hard place." How do you choose between your children and a job? If you choose the job you'll only see your kids about 2 hours a day M-F. If you choose your kids, well, you won't have the money to survive...I'd like a third choice please...but it never came.
I chose my children.
Wednesday our house will go up for auction due to foreclosure. I have to believe I made the right choice - that I did obey. Although the world is telling me I am wrong my heart is telling me I did the right thing. The fact that I have had seven precious months with Daniel, well no amount of money could buy back even one second of that time, but all material things can be replaced. So hopefully this will help someone who is going through a rough time. A friend asked if there was a way to avoid it happening, Joe and I looked at each other and laughed and said, "Sure, make your house payments." I know what they were asking, but in our case, there were some extrenuating circumstances with the type of mortgage we have/had that made this inevitable once we got behind.
It is hard and it stinks like rotten fish, but you know what, so what. A lot of things hurt and are horrible, but hey, we still wake up and the sun rises and my children laugh and I am at home to hear it. So I am thankful. Thankful that Joe is okay with my decision. Thankful for each moment with my three sons that nothing could replace or give back if I were to miss it.
I am not brave about sharing my faith. I fear someone will become angry with me, but I do know that God is real. I know this because God has answered my prayers. He has answered too many of them for me to doubt that He is real. Living in Tennessee was an answer to prayer. A friend of mine and I used to pray on the way to elementary school that we could live in Tennessee, God allowed me to and I have LOVED it here. I prayed as a nine year old girl that God would allow my dog, Bear to live till I was 25 (I thought that was really old) and I was 26 when he died. God heard my prayers and answered them.
It makes me angry when people doubt His reality. If you aren't saved, if you haven't asked Jesus Christ to come into your heart and save you, then how dare you speak to me about doubting him. That is speaking in ignorance. Just because someone who lives in the jungles of Africa has never seen a skyscraper, does that mean they aren't real? Just because I've never seen the person living in the jungle, does that mean he isn't real? No, but by telling me you doubt God's existance you are calling me a liar and that ticks me off. I have seen Him work in my life, I have felt the comfort of my Father's arms as I cried myself to sleep and I have heard His still, small voice during the storm. He is REAL and He is PRESENT.
I have also felt as though He turned his back on me, like David writes in the Psalms. The pain in not feeling His presence is terrifying. To think how Jesus felt on the cross when he cried, "My God! My God! Why hast thou foresaken me?" I truly do not understand how people can live without Him. In those moments when I cannot find Him, that is when I know true fear. But I know there is a reason, usually my sin is seperating me from fellowship with my Lord or perhaps it is a time of testing. Both have happened in my life.
I have never doubted God's existance, but I doubt my worthiness of His love. That is what is so awesome about God. I am unworthy. I know the thoughts of my heart and they are no worse or better than yours, and yet, He loves me.
So through this time "where He sends we will go" even to Alabama (which to me is the desert) or whereever He opens the door. I will miss living here in East Tennessee. I really do love it here. Like today, it has snowed, rained, haled and sleeted and it is only 2 pm! That is funny. I love our church, but God is in Mobile too. I do see a silver lining...my children will build relationships with family, something I didn't have growing up and I regret. So it will be worth it all.
Till tomorrow...

Tractor Tipping...Spring

No, I have never in my life been cow tipping, however, our sons LOVE Lightening McQueen, aka "Ching-Ching" at our house and Mator. So for all you fellow Cars fans, you'll know what I am referring to...

David is our John Deere boy, through and through. Now that Spring is in the air and tractors are cruising yards he is so happy...here is a photo that shows just how excited he and our dog Molly get when they hear the neighbor mowing...

PS I've updated Jonathan's b-day with photos...

Milestones

Well we had two huge milestones last week and I didn't record either of them till now. Guess better late than never!

Jonathan turned 5. I can hardly believe it. He has wanted to be five since his third birthday and my how that time has flown by. He really didn't even get a party this year because we've been so sick. Hopefully we will be able to have a celebration here soon. He received a number of fun things, mostly Spider Man related, one especially hit the mark. His Papa Ed got him a Spider Man DVD when I put it in the player, Jonathan and David jumped on the couch to watch. Then Jonathan looked at David and said, "This is going to be SO cool! I've never seen Spider Man before." I just cracked up. He and David have enjoyed watching the webbed one.
Here is Jonathan enjoying his cupcake!

Well the other big thing that happened around here is that Daniel got two teeth!!! Or as we call them "teephers."
If you look close you can see them in this photo. Poor baby, he has pink eye and an ear ache, but you'd never know it he is so good!!! Except when I put him down! Ha, ha. He is a mamma's boy though.

Our Service

We have been having a hard time for about nine months now. Especially with Christian platitudes when someone asks, "How are things?" and I don't give the pat answer, "Fine." Sometimes I tell the truth. Then I hear things like, "Well you've just got to get the victory over this." I'm sorry, but really how is that helpful? I mean was it kind when Job's friends told him it was sin and he needed to do better? No. Sometimes you need permission to feel the pain instead of being told to rise above it.
However, this post is not a complaint, in fact it is a praise because the Comforter is the one who ultimately is providing peace during this time. Last night we got yet another blow via the mailbox. I still can't believe what God will allow. In fact I now understand why some people choose NOT to be Christians and why some turn away from the Lord, this walk is hard, even when we trust Him. But I have made a commitment and I am not going to quit just because times are tough.
Anyway, last night I was praying and asking the proverbial "why?" and He answered...
We are soldiers in this battle that is not of flesh and blood. I've known this since I learned to sing about it. However, now I see the correlation better...Our servicemen and women choose to enlist in a division of the Armed Forces, by choice, of their own free will. They go through training, then serve wherever their Commander in Chief tells them. Even when they disagree, a good soldier will do what they are told. When soldiers die, we don't say, "Boy, that was stupid. Didn't he know it was going to be tough?" or "Why would he do that?" All soldiers know the cost and choose to serve faithfully or go AWOL or leave when their tour is up.
We as Christians are in a similar situation. We have aligned ourselves with Christ and His cause. We have made a commitment. We have chosen to serve Him. We have the choice to continue when it gets tough, or to quit. We can lay down our Sword of Truth, and leave our Helmet of Righteousness at the Cross and choose our own path or we can continue on even through the heat of battle.
We may be losing the battle but we know WE HAVE WON THE WAR! Whereas non Christians may be winning battles, but they don't even realize they have lost. Lost their immortal soul.
So yes, it hurts. And yes, it is depressing, but there is joy, peace and love. There is the knowledge that He is with us and will never forsake us. He does not leave when the enemy comes, he is there in the foxhole with us.
I love our military men and women, who choose to sacrifice all for our freedom and country. So instead of being ashamed of being a Soldier for the Cross, we should stand proud with our scars, and keep our eyes on our Commander in Chief, Jesus Christ, for our next assignment, whatever the cost.
Hope that makes sense, it helped me...:)

More Videos

Daniel Layne:

This is of Daniel on our den floor, David is talking in the background saying Daniel should be in the "rocks." "Daniel should be in his walker" is what he was trying to say! Daniel gets hold of the strap on the camera too.

Stuff

Well as you can see big shot Daniel is in fact eating cereal and loving it. This picture was taken a couple days ago, now he has been eating his food for three weeks and let me just say he is a champ. He loves it! Cries when it is gone and makes very little mess. He is getting the hang of the spoon and swallowing without pushing it all out of his mouth. However, he is still not sleeping through the night!
To change subjects, Mr. Fox from church gave me some words of wisdom and I thought I would share it with others that may be going through some of the same stuff we are...we have been hit hard by this wonderful recession just like some many others in America.
I had a job offer back when Daniel was only six weeks old and I just could not get a peace about taking the job. We would not have gotten ahead by me leaving our three sons, we just would have added some money and a lot of stress, so I turned down the job. Needless to say I almost had an anxiety attack the next day thinking what had I done?!
But the Lord did give me peace, even though it didn't make sense to a lot of people, I know I did what was right for our family. Anyway, I was speaking with Mr. Fox and I said something about "doing without" and he said, "No you are not doing without."
And you know it hit me - no we are not doing without. I don't have some things that others may think, "How can you live without that?" or "I could never do that." But we made a choice, I personally made a choice, that my husband and children are more important to me than anything money can buy.
Also, what would my children be "doing without" if I had gone back to work? They wouldn't have even had a say in the matter! But I cannot imagine throwing their world off course by getting them up at 6 am every morning, snow, rain or shine to take them to a babysitter or daycare. They get to be at home with each other and their mom, like kids are supposed to.
God has given me a wonderful, hardworking husband who goes to work every day and tries to find extra jobs to make up the difference. Joe's willingness to provide for our family allows me to be a stay-at-home-mom to our sons. I am so blessed and thankful that he is willing to make the choice not to need the money for an expensive hobby or something he may want, but that he is happy that I am here with our sons too.
So, God has given me my hearts desire. I could have chosen to go to work, which for some is the right choice. Whatever we choose is more important to us means we are not "doing without" we are living with our choice. And even though this is not an easy choice, it is one that makes me happy. Knowing that my children are safe, loved and here with me for the short time that I will have them!
If anyone knows of a REAL LEGITIMATE way that I can make some $$ here at home I am more than willing to do that!!! :) So, please let me know.
Have a great day!
